cookies with sugar on top.

May 25th, 2011.

This one is a failure hahaha. I got the recipe from some random recipe sites and just because it's so simple to make, i decided to try to make it. And what do you know, it may be simple, but it tastes like crap. But i'm quite proud of myself for making an effort to decorate the cookies. Psst.. i tossed half of that batch into the trashcan ;p

So here they are, my cookies with sugar on top! Level of failure 1-10: 10,5!!! hahaha...

fresh from the oven. they look wrong!

icings.. mix confectioners sugar with warm water

although they don't taste as good, they look delish, right?

beef steak.

This is what i usually make for dinner when i don't really like the dish (such as fish, because i don't eat fish). It's the simplest way of making a steak. There's no exact amount for this recipe, it's all up to you, whether you want it to be very salty, very spicy, et cetera.

What you need:

about 100 grams of beef meat (sirloin, tenderloin, any kind)
a good pinch of salt and ground pepper
a good pinch of dried thyme leaves
a good pinch of dried mint leaves
lettuce (as much as you like)
2-3 tablespoons of italian dressing
a bit of olive oil

Directions:
  1. Season the meat with salt, ground pepper, dried thyme leaves, and dried mint leaves.
  2. Leave it until the seasonings absorbed perfectly.
  3. Prepare a pan, set the stove at medium heat, drizzle with olive oil (not too much), set the stove to high heat.
  4. Cook the meat for at least 5 minutes to the desired level.
  5. After the meat is cook, rest it in a plate.
  6. To make the salad, chop lettuce and drizzle with Italian dressing (i suggest you to use the brand Taylor's)
  7. Serve.
i like medium rare meat :)

chocolate chip bread pudding.

May 23th, 2011.

Inspired by Nigella Lawson's bread pudding recipe, i tried to make my version of chocolate chip bread pudding. It's very simple, you won't need a long time to make it. So here's what you need:

4 slices of bread
1/2 lt milk
3 eggs
1 cup light brown sugar
2 tbsp rum (or as you like)
1 tsp cinnamon powder
1 tsp white sugar (for sprinkle)

How to make:
  1. Cut the bread slices into pieces, put them in a dish. Sprinkle the middle and top part with chocolate chips.
  2. In a bowl, whisk together milk, eggs, light brown sugar, rum, and cinnamon powder.
  3. Add milk & eggs mixture into bread.
  4. Let the bread soak for 2 - 3 minutes.
  5. Sprinkle with white sugar to add crisp.
  6. Put in the pre-heated oven at 180 degrees Celcius for 20- 25 minutes.
  7. Serve while still warm (5 - 6 servings)

cinnamon & spekkoek cookies.

May 21th, 2011.

Making butter cookies in a nick of time.
Don't have much time lately, and i got the recipe from random recipe sites. This is my first attempt in baking cookies, so they look rather messy in the process (as you can see it in the pictures).

Ingredients:

1 1/4 cup flour
1 3/4 cup brown sugar
3/4 cup shortener
1 tsp baking soda
1 tsp cinnamon powder
1 tsp spekkoek powder
1 tsp vanilla extract
2 eggs
a few pinch of roasted almonds

For the icing
Mix 1 cup of confectioners sugar with a bit of warm water.
You can choose any color you like with the food coloring gel. And then to add the final touch, sprinkle the cookies with sweets.

macaroni schotel.

May 19th, 2011.

Here's another simple recipe that i haven't got to try to make. So, on Thursday night, i tried to make some, using my aunty's recipe. I changed the recipe a bit knowing that it's her secret recipe ;p

Ingredients you need:

3/4 pack of macaroni pasta
1/2 medium-sized onion
2 cloves garlic (or as desired)
3 cubes chicken stock
8 eggs
100 g chicken fillet (chopped into small cubes)
125 g chedar cheese (finely grated)
3 slices smoked beef
1 lt milk
2 tsp oregano (o as desired)
2 tsp basil (or as desired)
1 tsp nutmeg (or as desired)
salt and pepper (as much as you desire)

How to make:

1. Pre-heat oven at 180 degrees C
2. In a large bowl, mix together eggs and milk. Add salt, pepper, and 1 cube chicken stock.
3. Boil water in a large pan. Cook the macaroni until soft. Personally i like my pasta to be slightly chewy, so it's up to you whether you want the pasta to be tender or chewy. When the macaroni's cooked, drain the water.
4. In a different pan, heat butter and add onion and garlic until they smell good and slightly browned. Add chicken fillet and sliced smoked beef. Add seasonings (oregano, basil, salt, pepper, and the rest of chicken stocks).
5. Mix the cooked macaroni and chicken into the egg mixture, add grated cheddar cheese as much as you like. The saltiness will come from the cheese and the chicken stock. So you won't need to add too much salt.
6. Put macaroni mixture into a dish and put it in the pre-heated oven for 30-35 minutes.
7. Serve with chili sauce, parmesan cheese, or tabasco :)

egg & milk.

macaroni.

chicken fillet and smoked beef.

place in a dish and put in the pre-heated oven.

i do think that i've put too much macaroni. The macaroni should be drowned in eggs, actually.

bon appetite :)

marble cake.

May 9th, 2011.

This is my first attempt in making marble cake. I'll post the recipe later on. Here are the photos. Looking good, almost there :)

vanilla cupcake.

May 8th, 2011.

Using the chocolate cupcake recipe in my previous post, but not including the cocoa powder and add a tiny bit of vanilla extract into the batter. Aaaand.. as usual i poured too much batter into the cupcake tins, so they look pretty much like fat mushrooms. But the texture of the cake is very beautiful. It is soft and fluffy. In the picture abovem that is the only one that has much better shape than the others. Spread a little bit of cream cheese and decorate it with colorful sweets.

pancakes.

April 30th 2011

It was Saturday morning, and all i wanted to have is a couple of warm tasty pancakes with maple syrup. I used to watch my Mom making pancakes from scratch when i was a kid. I guess you already knew that making pancake is one of the easiest thing to do :)

You will need:
  • 1 cup all-purpose flour
  • 2 tbsp white sugar
  • 2 tbsp baking powder
  • 2 tbsp vegetable oil
  • 1 cup milk
  • 1 egg, beaten
  • 1 tsp salt

How to make:
  1. In a large bowl, mix flour, sugar, baking powder, and salt. Make a well in the center and pour in milk and oil. Mix them until smooth.
  2. Heat a lightly oiled griddle or frying pan over medium heat.
  3. Pour or scoop the batter onto the griddle, using approximately 1/4 cup for each pancake. Brown on both sides,
  4. Serve them while they're still warm/ hot.

Adhetta (my little assistant) loves blue pancakes -______-"

Here you go, Adhetta's blue pancake. It looks revolting! Hahaha...

Put a tiny slice of butter (i love salted butter, Lurpak or President or Orchid) and pour maple or corn syrup as much as you like. Sprinkle a bit of almond. Yum yum!
